Commet - Matrix Client

I hate to be negative, because the splash screen seemed very promising, but I cannot bring this app to work on my machine.
On LibreWolf it didn't even start and made my whole browser lock up for a few seconds. On Firefox it's still laggy, but it at least loads... except I cannot verify my session and access most of my content, because the verification never arrives.
And even if it did, from the little checking around I did, I'm not really seeing what more this can do compared to Cinny, which runs at a fraction of the resources.
Maybe the phone / flatpak clients are better, but the experience so far doesn't really make it seem like it's worth the effort to try.
Same experience on Firefox.
Edit: Oh I got it to verify by using Matrix on my phone to request verification for the Commet session, rather than having Commet request verification from my phone.
here it worked on Firefox 147 without problems. I think their idea of having "voice chat rooms", "text chat rooms", "calendar" is perfect as a Discord substitute. First time I see a Matrix client that can hold against Discord.
Verification worked for me on Android, cross-verifying against SchildiChat Next on the same phone, but I had to try twice; it timed out the first time. I can't try it on web/desktop yet right now. It is pretty but not very native in terms of interface patterns on Android phone; perhaps it's better on tablet or desktop.
It does seem to have features people migrating from Discord would want. Spaces (for "servers"), gif search, stickers.
The familiar interface might be just the push needed to convert friends to Matrix. It still needs quite a few finishing touches, but it's definitely promising and worth contributing to.
