Wow, those folks really seem to enjoy building the same thing over and over.
Post Hog is a crazy name for anything but a male oriented porn site. They probably intended something else, but all I can see is the imperative.
Guess my English teacher in 7th grade jinxed us all by saying "for some reason all the pupils always will remember 'spotted hog' from the list of words in that week", but he was right. So it will forever be just a quasi-synonym for pig for me. (Unless used as 'resource hog').
So it will forever be just a quasi-synonym for pig for me.
Well, it is -- although I think rarer in British English. It's more often a verb here.
(Unless used as 'resource hog').
But that's the same meaning: something that is greedy for resources and grabs all it can, in a piglike way.
I am not disagreeing, but it puts me in mind of an American powertool that I have never seen, but read about in a Neal Stephenson essay 27Y ago:
In the beginning... was the command line
IMHO this remains essential reading for anyone involved in FOSS OSes, design, use, support, anything.
THE HOLE HAWG OF OPERATING SYSTEMS
[...]
The Hole Hawg is a drill made by the Milwaukee Tool Company. If you look in a typical hardware store you may find smaller Milwaukee drills but not the Hole Hawg, which is too powerful and too expensive for homeowners.
For what it's worth, my last company used Posthog, and I couldn't really take them more seriously than your joke about their name. Their UI is absolutely bananas in an "Office-95-with-all-the-toolbars-open" kind of way. Powerful, but the learning curve makes Emacs look like Windows Paint. A couple of weeks after I joined, they acknowledged this, and said their fix was to go LLM-native: the new "interface" was just talking to an agent. In other words: yeah, our UI sucks, but we can't fix it, so we're just gonna make you deal with a support robot.
Hmm I didn't read it that way. I looked into the name and post hog might be because you use POSTs to send analytics and hedgeHOG since a group of them is called an array.
Porn was the last thing I would have thought of.
