The sound of inevitability

Note also the threatening tone present
To me this is the part that makes me skeptical that even the most vocal proponents really believe in the inevitability. Unlike this quote, I don’t think they are meaning to threaten others though. Rather I think they fear this being true and then missing the train. They feel threatened and are looking for the herd to protect them.
I think it’s fair to say that on the trajectory we’re on, AI growth is inevitable unless something radical happens.
I disagree. AI continues to poll badly among the general public, companies are starting to feel the pain of trying to replace engineers with LLMs, youtube has started cracking down on AI-generated videos, and the breathless “AGI is just around the corner” platitudes sound emptier each year they’re repeated.
It’s true that a large chunk of big tech is heavily invested in pushing AI, to the point where they may consider it “too big to fail”, but there have been a bunch of “inevitable” products over the past several years that never ladned. The metaverse comes to mind, for example.
