In October of this year, there was an unexpected development: Steinberg released version 3.8.0 of the VST 3 SDK under the MIT license.
I wonder what motivated this change, since presumably whoever pushed for it had to get higher-up buy-in. Maybe having to maintain their workflow for getting the proprietary license was too annoying and not actually benefitting them financially, so they were able to spin it as "this will save us money"?

CLAP came out a few years ago, is fully OSS, and is starting to see widespread adoption, with new plug-ins regularly supporting CLAP and not VST3 (because the API is just so damn simpler)
Very cool! I had no idea it was this (relatively) easy to use libclang for this kind of thing.
