KDE’s software is competitive
That's not a hollow "competitive." It really is very competitive for just letting me get things done and be productive. Enough niceties to be simple, but no random extra popups or search bar ads.
Years ago when I used Xfce, KDE had the reputation of being slow and heavyweight, but I tested it again recently prior to being forced to upgrade my current main box from Windows 10 to Windows 11. I had to keep running Windows for a few games on that hardware, but I was so impressed I salvaged a 6 year old box as a daily driver with KDE now.
No kidding, I used to use i3wm for about ten years and had maybe two attempts at Plasma during that time but bounced off pretty quickly because of excessive bloat and slowness. But third time's a charm, and I installed Nobara Linux at the beginning of the year and haven't had basically any issues with KDE (Wayland is still not suitable for professional use, though, but that's another story.) It's honestly really good. Haven't booted into Windows this year at all.
Is that a lot for kde?
In 2024, KDE e.V. reported 641,525.00 of income over 470,532.68 in expenses. So probably yes.
