Increasing from 16 to 32 general purpose registers, more predicated instructions, status flags can bet set optionally, load and store pairs of registers … where have I seen these features before?!
oh, uh, previously, also, and much more recently
I was thinking a bit more previously.
I think my pet hate is companies releasing features with adjectives like ‘advanced’ in the name. I know it’s just marketing, but 10-20 years down the line the feature is not going to be ‘advanced’, it’s going to be ‘legacy’, and yet we’ll all still be stuck with the name and the next iteration will have to come up with new adjectives to differentiate it like ‘ultra’ or ‘extreme’. Just use a name that accurately describes the feature or some meaningless noun that doesn’t degenerate into undifferentiated adjective soup over time.
